Throughout my daughter’s years of high school English was always her weakest subject. As determined as she was, each and every year she’d start with the drive to succeed only to end up realising her efforts were not paying off; so, before year 12, she had asked/stated she needed a tutor.
Not having a post VCE career path already decided as most students already do added to her worry to succeed as she felt she had no end goal to aim for. So it all relied on each subject’s study score, results scaled up and results scaled down and so the jargon goes, giving her the ATAR that would in turn likely decide her fate for her. As a parent I just wanted her to try her best and somehow enjoy the process but to do that I needed to give her access to more tools and resources to utilise. I wanted her to be able to say at the end of the year she truly tried her best and found enjoyment feeling empowered with knowledge and repeated practice to walk into her exam head held high no matter the outcome.
Luca ensured his tutoring aligned with the specific and new 2024 study design for English Language within the VCE curriculum and assessment requirements. It was a fresh and stressful start for VCE English Language in 2024 as it seems schools and everyone was scrambling to understand this new course. Luca was all over it and had been working on materials for the new course since 2022.

You’ll dive deep into two texts throughout the year. This isn’t about memorising plot points – it’s about understanding what makes a text work, and developing your own thoughtful interpretations that stand out.
Here’s where you get to be The Writer! You’ll craft your own pieces, drawing from creative prompts and key ideas. It’s about finding your voice and learning how to write with purpose, whether you’re telling a story, making an argument, or exploring an idea.
You’ll learn to spot how writers and speakers try to win people over – from their choice of words to their use of images. You’ll analyse recent media pieces and learn what makes persuasive writing truly convincing.
Units 3 and 4 each contribute 25% through:
A 3-hour exam with three key parts
We break English down into pieces you can actually work with. Instead of vague advice like “write better,” we show you exactly how to craft stronger sentences, develop your ideas, and manage your time in SACs and exams. Most importantly, we help you find your own voice – because the best English students aren’t just good writers, they’re original thinkers.
Everyone approaches English differently, and that’s exactly how it should be. We’ll work with your strengths, help you tackle the areas you find challenging, and build your confidence step by step. Our feedback is specific and actionable, focused on your particular goals and way of learning. Your writing is exactly that, your own. We will help you take your unique writing and writing style, and present it as it is required for VCE success.
The writing and thinking skills you’ll develop in English go way beyond Year 12. Our students find themselves better prepared for university assignments, more confident in job applications, and more articulate in whatever they choose to do next. That’s because we focus on building real skills, not just exam techniques.
