Walking into English language classes in year 12, with average and below average scores did have me quite worried. With the help of my tutor I was able to break down concepts to help remember specific metalanguage and techniques that my school did not provide. This meant I was gaining excess knowledge, sophisticated and clear answers to earn full marks in my responses and provide the best writing I could to my school teachers and assessors during exams. I felt confident and prepared going into each SAC and English language exam. It made me feel excited walking into class feeling confident in what I had learnt from ATAR star. Throughout my daughter’s years of high school English was always her weakest subject. As determined as she was, each and every year she’d start with the drive to succeed only to end up realising her efforts were not paying off; so, before year 12, she had asked/stated she needed a tutor. 

Not having a post VCE career path already decided as most students already do added to her worry to succeed as she felt she had no end goal to aim for. So it all relied on each subject’s study score, results scaled up and results scaled down and so the jargon goes, giving her the ATAR that would in turn likely decide her fate for her. As a parent I just wanted her to try her best and somehow enjoy the process but to do that I needed to give her access to more tools and resources to utilise. I wanted her to be able to say at the end of the year she truly tried her best and found enjoyment feeling empowered with knowledge and repeated practice to walk into her exam head held high no matter the outcome. 

Luca ensured his tutoring aligned with the specific and new 2024 study design for English Language within the VCE curriculum and assessment requirements. It was a fresh and stressful start for VCE English Language in 2024 as it seems schools and everyone was scrambling to understand this new course. Luca was all over it and had been working on materials for the new course since 2022. 

ATAR STAR exceeded both our expectations. This was more than just knowledge and critiques, it was about developing a trust in your tutor with such open communication that in the end she developed a real friendship and felt so supported throughout the entire process.

I have nothing but absolute praise and admiration for Luca and his team at ATAR STAR for taking my glass half empty daughter who thought she’d be lucky to even achieve a study score of 25 or above and be given the opportunity to attend university to not even thinking about that number as she focused on each week’s tasks to build on her skill set.

I am a big believer that the process is worth more than the outcome because that is where you learn about yourself and discover  your strengths and abilities to learn, perform and succeed and then apply these skills in real life settings. 

On the day that results were released Luca was the first call she received to see how she went, how she FELT and to say how proud and happy he was for her in that moment…. What more can I say 💕
